24 Awesome Music Videos That Never Won An MTV Award

Matt Stopera at Buzzfeed has responded to MTV’s nominations for Best Video That Should Have Won A Moonman with a list of his own. And I have to say that both lists are really crazy. Regardless of what you think of some of these songs, if you had MTV when they were on, they were inescapable, hugely popular clips.

“Smooth Criminal” never won an MTV Award? Neither did “Into the Great Wide Open” or “Freedom” or “Sabotage”? And there was no love for “Basketcase” or “Baby Got Back” or “No Rain” either?

But, of course, the greatest tragedy of all is that “Say You’ll Be There” by the Spice Girls was never given its props. It’s a fantastic pop song and an even greater video that, more perfectly than any other artifact the group left behind, really defines what the Spice Girls were all about as a cultural phenomenon. And I can’t believe that it never won a Moonman. I really can’t.

What?!? I’m totally serious. There isn’t an ounce of sarcasm in me right now as I type this. C’mon.... You don’t believe me?
