Pomplamoose Covers Beyonce’s “Single Ladies”

I hope I’ve made it obvious somewhere by now that I am in love with quirky covers of popular songs. Pomplamoose’s cover of Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” definitely fits that profile, and the accompanying music video (embedded above) is just icing on the cake. As Jason Kottke explains, the video is a “good example of what Robin Sloan calls the production-as-performance video,” and I really dig that we get a look into how the song was created here.

I also really dig the part where singer Nataly Dawn ad-libs, “Don’t make me sing this part of the song / The lyrics are so bad / So, we’re going to skip ahead / to the ‘Single Ladies’ part instead.” Instant classic stuff, in my humble opinion.
