Five Second Critic 004: Garden State

In this week’s episode of Five Second Critic, I examine the hidden connections between the film Garden State and the television program Scrubs.

Watched it and still confused? Here’s Five Second Critic for Dummies:

Zach Braff’s character on Scrubs was named John Dorian (nicknamed J.D.). Dorian was an daydreaming effeminate nerd, and several times during the series references were made to Star Wars, a common pop culture obsession for nerds, dweebs, dorks, and geeks of Dorian’s age.

Therefore, it can safely be assumed that, in much the same way that almost every TV show known to man happened in the mind of St. Elsewhere‘s Tommy Westphall, the film Garden State, wherein Braff’s character Andrew Largeman kisses Natalie “Queen Amidala” Portman’s Sam, takes place entirely in a perverted daydream of J.D.‘s.

Which itself probably occurs in Westphall’s mind, of course.

Trippy, huh?
