Five Sentence Critic: THE TOWN

Thanks to my occasional obsession with all things Kevin Smith, I’m a Ben Affleck fan from way back, but it seems like it’s been a good long while since I’ve seen an Affleck flick; Jersey Girl (which I liked, by the way) might have been the last.

The Town wasn’t necessarily what I’d expect from the guy who was “the bomb in Phantoms” and who bombed in Gigli, but dude’s grown up in recent years by all accounts, and, when he’s pairs himself with great material, I think he’s a pretty damn good talent. The Town, it so happens, is great material: cops and robbers, a well-developed millieu, and a third act heist that is, at once, both audacious and an absolutely natural progression for these characters.

As with several of the films I’ve seen lately, I won’t be rushing out to buy this one for my personal collection, but I’m coming to terms with the fact that not all movies are meant to be re-watched. The Town is a 3.5 Geek movie that’s worth two hours of your time at the very least, but I’ll leave it up to you to decide if it’s worth more.
