The Trailer for the New Muppets Movie

When we saw the trailer for The Muppets at the movies yesterday, we didn’t know what it was at first. That’s part of the idea — the powers that be released it online as the trailer for something called Green With Envy, after all — but we were about two seconds from hurling something at the screen, an insult at the very least, when they finally revealed Kermit the Frog, and suddenly were like, “Oh...” So, they came about as close to losing us with this as they could without actually losing us.

In the end, the trailer is still kind of disappointing for those of us who are only casual fans of the Muppets. A friend pointed out that, for the first time since Jim Henson’s death, Kermit at least sounded like Kermit, but from what we saw in the trailer and what we’re reading in the press release, we’re not sure how this movie will differ from the other Muppet movies we’ve seen. It seems to follow the same “getting the band together” (or back together, as the case may be) plot that we saw in both The Muppet Movie and The Muppets Take Manhattan, and that’s a story we really don’t need to see again.

However, it’s coming from apparent Muppet geek Jason Segel, so there’s reason to have hope. Passion for a project doesn’t always indicate that the project will be good, but it doesn’t hurt.

What do y’all think?
