A week and a half after buying it while on my Saturday adventure with Beth the Bassist, I finally sat down to watch 8 Mile tonight, after a long day at work. When I missed it during its theatrical run I was disappointed both as an Eminem fan and even more so, as a Curtis Hanson fan. Those who’ve read this page for any length of time will know of my undying love Hanson’s previous film, Wonder Boys. I truly wanted to see 8 Mile for Curtis Hanson more than Eminem.
This is not to say that I wasn’t intrigued with how Mr. Marshall Mathers would do in his debut performance. Indeed, I was quite anxious to see that.
I won’t get into a full review of the film or anything, but I will say that it did not disappoint on any level and it was just the thing to watch after a long day at work, after a long day of wondering about my future as an artist.
I’ve been considering applying to the low-residency MFA in Creative Writing program at Lesley University. I think that graduate school may be the next logical step for me. I’ve gone back and forth about it for the past four years but I’m really thinking it’s time for me to get my foot back in the educational pond.
Was that a cliche or was that, like, half a cliche? Dude, I really must be tired.
Anyway, if any of you have read the book, I’d appreciate your thoughts on what story you think I should use as my writing sample for grad school.
For now though, I’m off.
