Purity

I decided today at work, while our network was fucked up because of a hacker attack the previous evening, that I would renew my quest to purify my home PC. I think I mentioned this at some point over the last couple of months. I have managed to find open-source or freeware alternatives to all of the major programs I have on my machine, except for a good antivirus program. I think I’ll have to shell out some bucks for that. Anyway, I think I’m going to go ahead and do another reformat this weekend while Stef’s at class.

There are probably lots of fun, social things I could be doing this weekend instead, and if I got a call saying, “Let’s hang out.” I would probably say yeah, but for now this is my plan.

I continued my daily habit of typing archival entries after my workout this afternoon. I managed to get in all of September 1997 and even had time to spare to run down to the grocery store and pick up a couple of things before Stef got home. I was on a roll tonight.

Then I started checking out some of the programs I plan on using when I remake my computer. Some of them (OpenOffice) were cool and some of them (GIMP) were giving me trouble. I eventually got GIMP (a Photoshop alternative) to work for me and now I’m excited. All I have to worry about is buying an antivirus program (unless someone can think of an open-source or freeware one and mail it to me) and figuring out what to do about e-mail.

It’ll be something to have going on in the background this weekend as I continue to plow through 1997, in an attempt to regain some of the footing I lost on this lifelong journal project early on.
