Into The Woods

The following reflection was written in 2003, when I was between 25 and 26 years old.

A word should be said about the Bradford College Music Theater Department’s presentation of Into The Woods in 1997. I had forgotten to write down to write about Into The Woods when I plotted out the course of 1997 from my memory, and hence, I don’t have any organized thoughts prepared. Here goes though…

Into The Woods was the best musical the department did while I was at Bradford. The cast was stellar and when I later watched a taping of the Broadway version on HBO I found myself longing to hear the Bradford rendition instead. That was nostalgia and whatever, but I honestly did prefer to hear my friends singing it instead of Broadway players.

Everyone was great but I remember being particularly struck by freshman Amanda’s performance as Little Red Riding Hood. I saw the show with Rachael and Russel, and I think Rachael and I went more than once. Every time I heard Amanda sing I thought, “She’s going to be a force to be reckoned with here at Bradford,” and I was sure I would cast her in something someday.

Uhm, that’s about all for now. I must stress that it was a wonderful show though. Perhaps I’ll come back and add more to this later.
