Because Stephanie and I had done absolutely no Christmas shopping whatsoever, I decided to skip the gym tonight and head right for the stores. It quickly became one of the worst decisions of my life. The horrendous traffic of Route 495 North, compounded by the horrendous traffic of just about every alternative route, nearly pushed me over the edge. I was so frustrated looking for different ways around the standstill that I ended up driving around a circle for fifteen minutes before finally heading along the route I usually take home.
Eventually I passed by my street and the street leading to the gym and, for a second at least, I considered going to the gym after all and saying the hell with all this. I didn’t, however. I knew that if I didn’t start the shopping tonight we weren’t ever going to get anything done in the next two weeks.
And what came out of the experience was a really great night of Christmas shopping. It took me a while to get it started, but once I did buy that first item I found myself coming up with neat, from-the-heart gifts for just about everyone. I actually can’t wait for Stef to get home from class so I can show her what I bought.
So, that was the end of a day that began with a visit to this webpage and to my e-mail inbox by the one and only Baptiste (whose e-mail I still have to reply to) and progressed through a stressful day at work where I didn’t think I was going to make my quota. I’m glad it’s over. I’m glad tomorrow is Friday.
