Recovering the Machine

I actually turned on my laptop for the first time in probably a month to type this, so you know something crazy is going down at the Clark household. It turns out that I finally had to buckle down and do a full system recovery on the desktop, which had been experiencing some stupid issues here and there for a while. HP assures me that this process will not delete any of my user files, that it will only reinstall the system. They better be fucking right.

This isn’t exactly the way I wanted to spend the first night after shipping of my thesis. I’d rather be out drinking or even just sitting with Stef watching a movie. But, I didn’t want to spend money to get a drink and Stef is going to bed early nowadays because she’s doing the Bahai fast during daylight thing that they do each year and she needs to get up early.

So, I decided to perform this little chore which I’ve been putting off for a few weeks. If all goes well, my system will be restored to the condition it was in when it left the factory. I’ll need to reinstall some apps, but that should allow me to reconsider exactly what apps I want on my machine anyway.

Hopefully it will solve the little issues it’s been experiencing. If it doesn’t solve them, I’m going to feel really silly for having gone to all this effort.

So, that’s all for today. If you want something more interesting, go read my lengthy Nine Inch Nails post. I haven’t had that much fun working on an entry in a long time.
