The Pats Pick Up Another Wide Receiver?!?

Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe reports that the Patriots have acquired wide receiver Andre Davis from the Cleveland Browns. This raises all sorts of questions about the Pats wide receiving corps, which was already full to the brim with talent. Davis had recently fallen out of favor with Browns coach Romeo Crennel (also the Pats’ former defensive coordinator) so what makes Belichick think this guy is a good fit for the New England system? It’ll be interesting to see how this pans out.

Belichick says he’s not unhappy with the receiver spot on the roster, but you do have to wonder, when you have Deion Branch, David Givens, Troy Brown, David Terrell, Bethel Johnson, P.K. Sam, and a host of others competing for five or six spots, why would you want to bring in another guy?

On the other hand, Davis does have some ability. He holds the Browns’ franchise record for longest TD reception (99 yards against Cincinnati) and has made 93 receptions for 1,412 yards and 13 touchdowns during his three years in the league. So, if the other guys aren’t panning out, I guess this makes a lot of sense.
