Bad TV

After watching an episode of Supernanny yesterday, Stephanie and I plopped ourselves on the couch after a long day of comparison shopping for the baby and watched something even more ridiculous—America’s Next Top Model. There was a marathon on VH1 and, bad as it was, it turned out to be one of those things I just couldn’t stop watching. Even when we quit the living room to go upstairs to bed, we ended up turning on the tube up here in order to watch the final two episodes.

And, thanks to a commerical they were running during breaks, we already knew who was going to win! So it wasn’t like there was any drama or anything. Well, there was, but we knew how it was going to turn out. I felt really silly, telling Stephanie on numerous occasions that I felt as if I could actually feel my brain rotting away. But I just couldn’t stop. It was horrible.

I did get to see a couple of ads for Nip/Tuck though, which Beth has been been raving about. And together with Beth’s raves, those commercials had me thinking that there was yet another show I should be watching.

Ah, television… last season I was down to three shows (Smallville, Desperate Housewives, and Extreme Makeover: The Home Edition), plus football. I thought I’d finally started to wean myself off of the evils of the boob tube. But with My Name is Earl coming out on Tuesday, and so many other shows just randomly popping up when I have time to veg out on the couch, I think my cause is lost.

Of course, I’m sure that Mort would say to enjoy while it lasts, as, with the baby coming, I probably won’t have any time to watch TV after this season.
